Weather Balloon Launch

wx balloon

The Rowan Amateur Radio Society is scheduled to launch a weather balloon on Saturday September 22, 2018 at 9:00am from the front soccer field at Dan Nicholas Park which is located on Bringle Ferry Rd, near Salisbury NC.

These balloons can reach altitudes of a 100,000 feet or more, and travel great distances before bursting and falling back to the earth. This launch will be tracked using the Automatic Packet Reporting System (APRS). APRS will help ground crews track the balloons path during the mission, and ultimately in guiding recovery teams to the payload, which will include a camera, once the mission is complete.

There will be ample parking and space for all that wish to attend. Join the discussion and stay up-to-date by visiting our Facebook Page.
