Archive for the ‘Field Day’ Category

This year Field Day will take place on June 25th and 26th 2011, and there will be two Field Day events held in Rowan County NC.

The first event, hosted by the Rowan County Amateur Radio Emergency Services will be held at the American Red Cross building on Jake Alexander Blvd. You can find more information on their website: Rowan ARES Event Page

The second event, hosted by the Rowan Amateur Radio Society will be held at Sloan Park which is located about 10 miles west of Salisbury just off NC Hwy 150. For more information on this event please see our Field Day page: Rowan ARS Field Day Page

Field Day presents an excellent opportunity to demonstrate Amateur Radio to the general public, elected officials, and organizations that Amateur Radio might serve during an actual emergency. We use alternate sources of power like generators, solar panels, and batteries to simulate the conditions often found during these disasters. With a participation of over 35,000 Amateur Radio Operators across the US and Canada each year, many locations now include a GOTA (Get On The Air) station which allows unlicensed individuals, with the guidance of a licensed operator, the chance to talk on the radio to other hams near and far…why not come out and give it a try!

Don’t forget Field Day starts tomorrow June 26th!

Members of the Rowan Amateur Radio Society will set up radios and antennas and begin talking to people all around the world at about noon on Saturday at Sloan Park using only alternate/emergency power sources. This is a fun, educational and free event the whole family can enjoy together. Read the rest of this entry »
